Paper Shredder vegetable oil - Paper Shredders

Can I use plain vegetable oil to lubricate my paper shredder blades?

The shredder came with a unoriginal bottle of some sort of oil, but I lost it. Can I use vegetable oil without risk of damaging the element?

Oil is a barren choice, IMHO.
Powdered graphite would not gum up the works, as the paper produces magnificent dust which attaches to the oil, and requires more intense maintenance.
